The search for a new coach at the BG has come to an end, as it was announced this morning that Chris Bergeron will be taking over for the 2010-11 season.

Bergeron will be the seventh coach in school history.

Bergeron, served as an assistant at Miami for ten seasons where he helped a team make back-to-back Frozen Fours including a berth in the national title game last season.

The new coach faces a difficult task now, helping re-build a program that was almost on hte verge of extinction just two years ago.

"I'm very excited to be a part of putting Bowling Green back where it belongs in the hockey world," Bergeron said. "My family and I are looking forward to becoming part of the Bowling Green community. What excites me the most, though, is seeing how hungry everyone is to make Bowling Green hockey successful again -- from Dr. Cartwright to Greg Christopher to everyone I talked to during the interview process."

There is a press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. today, more information will be available as the day progresses.
Former BG coach, Jerry York won his fourth national title last night as his Boston College Eagles defeated Wisconsin 5-0.

York won his first national championship with BG in 1984 and after leaving Northwest Ohio for Boston he's reached the mecca of coaching three more times, 2001, 2008 and of course last night.

The past decade has been dominated by York's Eagles, as they've won three national titles and made an appearance in the national championship game five times.

York, did comment on the 1984 championship vs. the 2010 one last night.

Q.  Can you talk about what the feeling is for you different from this national title versus your first one in 1984?

COACH YORK:  I think there's a lot of similarities.  I had mentioned to my team tonight before the game that I've coached a lot of teams that have gone to the national championship game, but three have won the right to put their name on the trophy, and those three, all three, shared common maybe attributes I look at.
The team that wins the game, the all‑american players are not going to be the difference unless you have a really good team going on that ice that night.
They have to be very, very disciplined in a setting that's hard to be, because it's bright lights and it's a big stage.  And I thought all three teams shared that hard work, great discipline and a team feeling. I thought tonight we achieved those attributes, but they're all very similar.
In '84 we had Dave Ellett, one of the best defensemen in all of college hockey. In 2001 I thought Brian Gionta had to be clearly one of the top players in college hockey.  In '08 it was Nathan Gerbe, and tonight you can pick a whole handful of our players.
Former BG coach and current Boston College hockey coach Jerry York will look to win his fourth national championship starting at 7 p.m. this evening.

York's Eagles reached the title game after a 7-1 shellacking of Miami in the Frozen Four semifinal last night. BC's opponent, Wisconsin, had similar success as they defeated RIT 8-1 in the first game.

York won his first national title as coach of the 1984 BG team and then added two more with Boston College in 2001 and 2008.

In his career, York has made the NCAA Tournament 17 times, posting a 32-18-1 record. His 32 tournament career wins is the highest in Division I history.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
While it's been 26 years since BG won a national title, and over two decades since the Falcons made an NCAA tournament, they'll be well represented in this years Frozen Four which kicks off Thursday afternoon.

Boston College coach Jerry York and RIT coach Wayne Wilson were both an integral part of BG winning their lone national title. York was the coach of the Falcons in 1984, while Wilson was the team captain.

For Wilson, making the Frozen Four this year was an improbable run as RIT had made their first NCAA tournament at the Division I level. York on the other hand is in his tenth Frozen Four, and is looking to win his fourth National Championship.

Wilson was asked about the 1984 National Championship at today's Frozen Four press conference and here was his following response:

"I've got the DVD of it, but I'm afraid to show it. I think every team has its own personality. The only point I'd like to make is to be in my first Frozen Four as a coach with Jerry York, who was my coach and he's coaching Boston College and that's pretty unique in itself."

All the games are on televised on the ESPN family of networks, starting tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. when RIT plays Miami and followed by Wisconsin and Boston College who will meet at 8:30 p.m.

All the games will be played at Ford Field in Detroit.

Against the then No.1 Miami RedHawks, Kantola posted his tenth multiple point game when he scored a power-play goal and an assist in a 3-2 Falcon loss. He also blocked a career-high 14 shots this season.

After the signing was confirmed, BGSU Falcons interim head coach Dennis Williams said, "Kai has always kept his feet moving and moves the puck well. He has got some great size and speed and with all that together, he can definitely use that to his advantage moving on as a professional hockey player."

He leaves Bowling Green having played in 135 games, scored 28 goals, 26 assists (54 points) and notched 13 power-play goals over his four year career.

After Kantola's signing, the Falcons have now sent two of its seniors of to play or tryout for a professional team. Yesterday, Kyle Page signed with the nearby Toledo Walleye of the ECHL and is expected to be in action in the team's game in Trenton, N.J. for the Walleye's game against the Devils.

"It's nice from our stand point (BGSU) to see us prepare players for their professional careers and its great to see people interested in our players," said Williams. "They both certainly deserve it."
Former BG captain Kyle Page has signed with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL. Page, a CCHA scholar-athlete this past season, posted a career-high three goals and 14 assists in his final collegiate season.

Being able to sign to a team that close to home is going to put him a very nice spot and he will do well for them."

Toledo sits in seventh place in the ECHL's American Conference with 66 points. Page will look to help improve a defense that has let up the third most goals in ECHL play this year, 224.
