What we know about the MAC so far: Week 2

1. Dan LeFevour is still really good.

No one actually believed that he wasn't, but he did not impress against Arizona in Week 1, throwing for just 108 yards (one of his worst outings at CMU) and rushing for 19 yards and a

touchdown. But Saturday, LeFevour (pictured) redeemed himself in an upset win against Michigan State, arguably a far better team. For the game, LeFevour completed 33 of his 46 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. He still has yet to get his legs going as his 13 carries only went for 10 yards. Nonetheless, LeFevour was still able to become the Mid-American Conference's all-time leader in total offense with 12,166. The previous record was held by Byron Leftwich -- who had 12,084 total yards in his career with Marshall. The others in the top five? It's actually pretty good company. No. 5 Ben Roethlisberger, No. 4 Tim Hiller and No. 3 Charlie Frye. He will get a chance to improve on that mark next week against Alcorn State.

2. The MAC West is almost back to normal.

The MAC West division brought itself back to normal -- for the most part. Three MAC West

teams won over the weekend, including an upset by Central Michigan (29-27 over Michigan State), a large win by Northern Illinois (41-7 over Western Illinois) and an upset win by Toledo (54-38 over Colorado on Thursday). However, the division is only mostly intact as two teams expected to make noise -- Ball State (pictured) and Western Michigan -- are a combined 0-4. But despite the positives, the MAC East still appears to be the superior division as it now has five total wins and narrowly missed its sixth as BG (27-20 to Missouri) held an early lead.

3. Miami and Ball State are just awful.

Ball State has suffered a pair of embarrassing defeats to Division I-AA teams, but Miami is

easily the worst team in the league. In games against two very good opponents, the RedHawks have not managed to score, while allowing Kentucky and No. 12 Boise State to score 90 off their defense. Yes Toledo has given up just as many, but they have scored about 90 points as well. Even Miami's kickoff returns rank last in the league. Their lone claim to fame so far this season is Jordan Gafford who is fourth in the MAC in tackles with 19.

4. MiQuale Lewis should be worried

Forget the Sports Illustrated and Madden curses, being a star running back in the MAC has
Lewis.jpg
equaled a sign of death this season. First, it was Buffalo's James Starks going down in the preseason (his replacement Brandon Thermilus couldn't continue his strong production against Pittsburgh as he only had 49 yards on 14 carries) and then Kent State's Eugene Jarvis going down tonight with season-ending injuries, Ball State's MiQuale Lewis (pictured) is the biggest fish left in the pond. Sure there are other stars like Eastern Michigan's Dwayne Priest and BG's Willie Geter out there who have star-potential, but if things really do come in threes Lewis should be on the lookout for his health.

5. Fun facts

Two MAC quarterbacks threw for over 400 yards this week (Opelt and Buffalo's Zach Maynard) ... After blocking an Indiana field goal, Western Michigan got to the 5-yard line but fumbled to essentially end the game ... CMU upset Michigan State on a last-second, 42-yard field goal ... Eastern Michigan is now 0-25 against The Big Ten after losing a heartbreaker to Northwestern ... Akron produced a shutout in front of a soldout crowd at its first game in InfoCision Stadium ... There were 10 different Zips that rushed the ball in the win ... There was a B2 flyover at the BG-Mizzou game ... Ohio beat North Texas in double-overtime on a two-point conversion after a NT penalty
